I think, as I look around at the speed of development, that my parent’s generation may be the last ones to truly feel a Generation Gap, at least one driven by technology (fashion and music, perhaps not so much).
The speed at which everything continues to move forward, new technologies, new discoveries, new experiences, means that we are all learning all the time. There is no easy point at which you can stop and sit back and say I’m done, I’m too grown up now I know everything. We are no longer encouraged to stop and rest on our laurels.
Once upon a time it was frowned upon if you went back to school as a mature adult (unless, of course you never left).  Learning new things was left for the young it was like…. wearing short pants in the 1700’s. It was something you did until the time that you were employed, married and had children.  You could look forward to being done there was no more schooling, there was nothing to learn except for your work specifics and you could slowly relax and slide down into your leisure years.
